What's Happening?

Some VPN providers have added security features that block certain types of traffic — including IPTV streams. These settings are well intentioned but can cause your service to stop working without any obvious reason.

This is a known issue with Surfshark and NordVPN, but other providers may have similar settings worth checking if you're having issues.

🔍 If your IPTV was working fine and suddenly stopped after a VPN app update, this is likely the cause. These settings can be switched on automatically by an update without warning.

Fix for Surfshark

🦈

Surfshark VPN

Disable Clean Web

Surfshark recently enabled a feature called Clean Web which blocks ads, trackers and malicious content — but it also interferes with IPTV streams. Switching it off fixes the issue immediately.

Fix for NordVPN

NordVPN

NordVPN's Threat Protection Pro includes an ad blocking function that can interfere with IPTV streams. Disabling just the ad blocking within that feature resolves the issue.

Other VPN Providers

Other VPN providers may have similar settings. If you're using a different VPN and experiencing issues, look out for any of the following features and try turning them off:

🔍
Look for settings labelled: Ad Blocking, Malware Protection, Threat Protection, DNS Filtering, Clean Web, or any similar security/filtering feature. Disabling these is usually the fix.
⚠️ These settings may have been switched on automatically by a VPN app update. It's worth checking them any time your service stops working unexpectedly after an update.
